We began class today with a warm-up where students examined a hypothetical situation involving colonizing Mars. We then had a discussion about these situations.
Next, students took notes on the failed Roanoke Colony.
Early colonies notes
At the end of class I showed students two short video clips on Roanoke. As students watched the videos they wrote down all theories as to the disappearance of the colony on their video sheets.
Video sheet and homework questions
For homework, students have to decide which theory they think is most plausible, and write a paragraph explaining why they think this is the correct theory (see attached sheet for assignment.)
