Today we looked at the advantages held by both the North and South during the Civil War.

At the beginning of class, students answered two warm-up questions as I checked their homework from  last night.

Next, I split students into small groups.  Each student was assigned a computer and asked to log on and go to edmodo.  They needed to follow the instructions below:

1- open the document I attached to edmodo

2- make sure you are signed into your google account

3- Click on the "file" menu, then select "make a copy"

4- They can re-name this assignment, or keep the name as is.  They are now able to manipulate the document

Next, each group sorted the events listed on the third slide of the PowerPoint.  They sorted the events and wrote a brief explanation of why each was an advantage.  They recorded these events onto the graphic organizer on their google document.

Next, students checked their answers against the solutions (slide 4).

Finally, students used this information in a writing assignment.  The writing assignment is attached to the bottom of the edmodo document.

When they have finished the writing assignment, students must make sure they have clicked on the "Share" button in google docs and enabled anyone with the link to view the document.  Then, they must submit the assignment through edmodo.

Homework is:

Submit the "Advantages of the North and South" document through EDMODO only.  If you share this document with me through google docs I will not grade it.  The written assignment should be around a half page, single-spaced using 12-pt font.
